The 3D-printed ring that doubles as a subway ticket

Two young entrepreneurs from Boston's MIT are currently trying to raise funds on Kickstarter for their Sesame Ring project. Their idea stems from a frustration: their travel is always lost at the bottom of their bag when it's time to use it. To remedy this situation, they came up with a new form, easier to find and more practical to use: a 3D-printed ring. This object is 3D printed, making it fully customizable. The ring is printed around a microchip, so all you have to do is place it on the scanner to trigger the opening of the gantry. Boston's transit authority is already implementing the system, but the creators intend to extend it to public transport worldwide. Another excellent idea that might never have seen the light of day without the help of the3D printer.
