The key consideration in the design of this kit is to secure the action camera more comfortably and stably, thereby enhancing the photo and video shooting experience. The design is similar to that of a conventional camera, allowing you to maintain a familiar shooting style while adding a unique shooting style unique to the action camera.
Ergonomic Design:
- Dedicated Shutter Button: Ensures precise control and reduces hand strain.
- Protection: Reinforced construction safeguards the camera from external elements.
- Accessory Mounts: Provide flexibility and customization options for various accessories.
- Vintage Camera Style: Evokes a nostalgic aesthetic and enhances the overall viewing experience.
- Lightweight Design: Minimizes physical burden, making the camera comfortable to hold and use.
The main feature is the grip with an ergonomic design, providing a comfortable experience. The extended shutter button utilizes the lever principle to improve the stiff button operation of the existing Insta360 Ace Pro, making it easier to operate the photo and video shooting shutter. Since it is extended to the front, it can be operated comfortably with the index finger of the hand holding the grip.
One of the main goals of the design improvement was to improve the excessive side length of the existing grip kit. Therefore, we tried to implement a small and balanced form that is as close to the camera as possible without interfering with the shooting of the camera by the hand holding the grip, and at the same time without covering the LCD of the front information display of the action cam.
In addition, the case and grip also perform the function of protecting the camera. The 3D printed grip kit (protector case, grip, extended shutter button) weighs approximately 50g in total, maintaining the advantages of a small and light action camera without significantly increasing the weight of the camera. The upper part has a cold shoe mount that can be used to mount various accessories such as a microphone, light, and an external viewfinder, and the upper part of the grip has a strap connection and a 1/4-inch screw hole at the bottom to optionally attach a wrist strap.
The bottom of the action camera in the grip kit has an open design that allows you to easily attach and detach existing mount accessories. The bottom of the grip has a space to store a small wrench, and it is designed to be easily attached and detached magnetically. The 1/4-inch screw hole and Arri locating pin structure allow for the attachment of general camera accessories.
How to assemble the grip kit
The grip kit consists of a square cage that wraps around the side of the action camera, a grip, and an extended shutter button. To assemble, first attach the shutter button to the cage and then attach the grip. After that, secure the cage and grip with three M2.5 x 10mm (or 8mm) flat head screws inside the cage. (Be careful, you cannot attach or detach the shutter button after the cage and grip are screwed in.) After assembling the grip kit, slightly spread the cage and mount the action cam from the back to the front. After mounting the action cam, secure it with two M2.5 x 10mm flat head screws on the side of the cage.
To attach the strap to the top of the camera, connect the M2.5 x 10mm screw to the hole in the thumb rest part of the picture. The hex wrench for loosening and tightening the used screw can be stored under the grip. To do this, insert and secure a 10mm diameter and 1mm thick round magnet. (The recommended L-small wrench size is T1.5 length 47mm, width 17mm)
